Vocabulary Assessment
Assessing students' understanding of vocabulary takes more than a spelling, definition, or fill-in the blank test. Teachers must ensure that the word has been moved to each student's long term memory and can be called on and use appropriately in reading, writing, and conversation.
TTR Ratio CalculatorThis text density calculator can be used to analyze vocabulary in writing many different ways. Copy a student's writing and past it in the "SourceText" box. When you generate the report you can sort the words in the writing by frequency. You can also eliminate words under 3 characters or specific words. This calculatro also provides a Text-Type Ratio (TTR) that represents a fraction of unique words over total words. This tool encourages students to use varied vocabulary in writing.
